Sightful Unveils Spacetop G1 Headless AR Workstation, Aiming to Beat the Rest in Battery Life

Fresh off a steal last year, AR workstation startup Sightful today unveiled the Spacetop G1, which promises to let you work in AR for up to seven hours before needing a recharge.

First unveiled last year alongside the announcement that the company had secured $61 million in funding, Sightful’s ‘headless AR laptop’ concept is pretty straightforward: headsets like the Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro only have two to three hours of life of battery and need a keyboard. for reliable text input anyway, so why not optimize a dedicated laptop to use a pair of lightweight AR glasses?

Enter the Spacetop G1, which is the company’s first commercially available product after the early access version the company released in limited quantities last year. The new Spacetop G1 promises up to seven hours of battery life, a new, 70% faster Qualcomm chip over the early access version, 90hz optical refresh rate and onboard AI functionality.

There are some caveats to being the company’s first widely available product. While the Spacetop G1 can be pre-ordered for $100 on sightful.com, the device will reportedly ship in October of this year for $1,900, which – not to split hairs – is essentially the price of the supplied XREAL Air 2 Ultra goggles ( $700) that drives. Visual interactions of the Spacetop G1 and a new low-spec MacBook Air.

Also, unlike a conventional laptop, the Spacetop G1 runs its own SpaceOS. Like a Chromebook, SpaceOS is an Android-based operating system that pays heavy attention to web apps, which, at the time of this writing, do not have access to the Google Play store.

Still, the company hopes it will strike a chord with users who value privacy—since it’s technically headless, no one can see what you’re seeing—as well as productivity-minded people who want multiple monitors on the go, and relatively life. long battery life. And yes, there is also a web cam. You can check out the specs below, and also get a more complete look at the company’s website.

Founded in 2020 by former Magic Leap executives Tamir Berliner (CEO) and Tomer Kahan (COO) and headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, Sightful now boasts 60+ employees working in product management, UX/UI, core software, cloud, applications, marketing, computer vision, systems and design.
